The kills work for challenges and dailies unless it was changed 4 weeks ago - Last time I purposely did dailies cuz my luck is garbo. (Crouching while jihading for crouch kills). I'm pretty sure damage from c4 does not count though. I like the trap items so if it is not a thing, I want spring traps and c4 to give daily damage.
